Errr volume 2 on the search for awesome local indie music I guess?
Haha just kidding. So anyways after having an awesome time at my cherry popping experience on TOKL's On The Up last month, I just had to bring myself to the next one. It wasn't really a question of curiosity but more towards a certain interest I seem to be developing towards the local indie music scene. And I have to say, it blew my mind!
The first band that played, which you can see is kind of named after the instruments that they played was so good, you wouldn't have had believe that they have only been around for about a year or so. But the bad part of it was that, they really did set the bar a bit too high which isn't really good because I enjoyed their performance so much, the others didn't really interest me anymore. I would have preferred them to be the last gig rather than the first...
A Mantle The Sea was up next and they were pretty good and I heard that they've been around for quite some time. A bit all-rounded where some of the songs were pretty good and others not so and halfway through it did kind of sound a bit like Simon & Garfunkel to me.
The 3rd band, Rumi, was a disappointment. I was expecting Jazz music, and it was even publicized on their myspace that their genre was Jazz but in the end, all they played were Punk Rock. It was really a turn-off but maybe they were trying out something new, who knows eh.
Finally, the anticipated Prema Yin was set to be the last of the night and with Fuzz telling me that she is really popular and well-known everywhere even internationally but from her performance, I didn't really believe it. And to make it worse, I never really heard of her before, haha so no offense but her music may cater to most people, which is kind of a blues rock, but that night it was really bad.
Oh well, hopefully the next one will be much better than this. 2StoreyHeart, Izzy Mohamed, Secret Love Affair and Brokenscar is up next!
