Spreading Rumours all around Chinese New Year

When he posted? David Cheong On 1:07 AM 52 shengge's
And it’s definitely the good kind of Rumours of course haha!

Recently, I and a couple of others were invited to preview and sample some really fine and somehow different type of Chinese New Year dishes. But before that, introductions are of course necessary. ‘Rumours’ is the name of the restaurant and in Desa Sri Hartamas it is located, fusion is the theme of the food and calm & soothing is the ambiance of the restaurant.

The inside of the restaurant

And of course a big thank you to Melissa and to Rumours as well for the invitation.

With Malik detailing every possible dish and fine winery, certainly the review was made easier, not to mention being allowed in the kitchen to witness Chef V in action really made us understand better in the preparations of the food and probably a sense of the inner workings of cooking, but shall we get started on the dishes hehe!

Darn mouth watering hor….

The first dish, being a Chinese New Year menu definitely has to be the Lou Sang but with a bit more modern twisted into it. Instead of the usual Salmon bundled together with normal Lou Sang’s, Rumours offers a selection of White Tuna, and if you are instead more used to the traditional Lou Sang, Salmon is also offered as well.

The Lou Sang was different from how restaurants usually serve them, well in terms taste lah. Usually Lou Sang’s have a pretty strong taste in them, my guess is from the usage of Salmon because, by replacing the Salmon with fresh slices of White Tuna, not only did it reduce the strong taste but also added a bit of different flavor to the dish.

If you are a lover of Pomelo’s, rejoice! For the dish also contains pomelo’s haha!

The second dish was the Ginger Chicken Consomme Soup, a genre of food that Chinese New Year has to have. Soup I mean, not the type of soup haha and surprisingly, I really liked the soup since I am really not a big fan of ginger soups. You can barely smell the ginger, which sometimes is a good thing but be cautioned though, it is peppery so if you can’t take much pepper, best to drink some only.

But iz nice so must finish all! Hahahaha

Commercial break to show you the backscenes, idea from Jen hehe!

Well the third dish or shall I say dishes in the menu is actually an option of 3 types of dishes to choose from, The Braised Beef Tenderloin in Chinese BBQ Sauce, Pan Fried Five Spiced Duck Breast and the Steam White Cod with Plum Sauce.

The Beef Tenderloin was really really tender kthxbai.

Hahaha I’m kidding, but it was really tender, pun definitely intended and with BBQ sauce being served with the beef, it somehow compliments it, somehow branching out from the usual black pepper sauce or even mushroom sauce. Thumbs up for creativity, two thumbs up because I love beef haha!

The Pan Fried Five Spice Duck Breast was errr soft and bouncy in a good way? And I really mean that because usually duck meats are a bit tough but this was the first time I tasted a really tender and soft duck meat, with butter rice coupled with the meat makes it a one of a kind type of dish, especially when served as a Chinese New Year dish.

Finally, the Steam White Cod with Plum Sauce was my favorite and surprisingly, it was because those that are really close to me knows how much I dislike fish, and I mean all types of fish.

Yes, I’m like that haha!

But really, this being my favorite among all 3 certainly does say something about the dish. Who would imagine plum sauce can go so well with cod fish and I say that because I never tried or seen it before so you don’t have to say I live under a coconut shell because I DO live under a coconut shell haha.

The fish was cooked just nice and also is served with butter rice. Oh, bear in mind that all 3 dishes are served with butter rice, with brown rice used and the butter was filled with herbs, making it pretty healthy.

And finally, the desert!

Sometimes I don’t even know whether I am Chinese or not because I dislike Chinese deserts. None! Zilch! But from the picture above, aren’t you surprised at how different it looks like because I know we were when we were at first introduced to the Red Bean Pancake with Sesame Ice-cream & Fruits.

Very different, very original, and surprisingly I’m ok with it. Heck I’m still not a big fan of red beans and if I say that I’m ok with it, to normal people it is considered awesome! Fruits colored the dish all around it, and the sesame ice cream added an extra flavor to the dish.

With some really light music coupled with a cozy and calm surrounding, exquisite winery collection to tickle the wine lovers taste buds, this is one restaurant one would not love to miss, especially the food lovers.

Jen gives the one wine up hehe

Priced at RM168+ for 4 pax, RM336+ for 8 pax and RM488 for 12 pax, Rumours Chinese New Year Special is definitely something to look forward to if you are looking for something different this Chinese New Year and is available from now till 9 February 2009.

Are you You:nique?

When he posted? David Cheong On 6:48 PM 0 shengge's
Well I like to think I am haha!

It was held in HQnine, TTDI Plaza

That’s cause recently, I was invited to a special preview of an all new, never before seen (well to myself lah) type of credit card which really did caught my attention. And I ain’t the type for credit cards either!

Robb being his naughty self haha!

Even for myself, I only have one credit card and that also is for petrol payments only, damn sad case right haha. But anyways, yeah as I was saying, the credit card preview featured an all new credit card introduced by the very same people whom brought you all-sorts of innovative products such as their ATM cum Debit card, Alliance Bank.

Get this ok!

This You:nique credit card, allows users, meaning you, you and you to personalize your very own credit card, including choosing different kinds of packages to go along with your own preferences. Now how cool is that? Meaning, Alliance Bank allows me to create almost any type of background design that I would want to use on the credit card and isn’t that a good enough reason to even simply own a credit card?

For example, you could personalize your card to have a picture of your favorite DJ of all time,

Or even, a picture of you and your friends cam-whoring

And of course, let’s not forget the nature lovers too eh?

Well if you are one lah hehe!

Actually from what I have learned from the event, to sign up is actually pretty simple where you have to first submit your application form and when it is approved, simple guidelines to create your card design is provided all the way from Step 1 itself. However, not every image is acceptable for the design of the card as do bear in mind that any image deemed inappropriate or offensive is not approvable to be created for example:

1. Something obscene – wanna share it, share it with me haha
2. Something offensive – nobody likes do be offended and neither do you!
3. Well I think you got the gist of it.

Or if you still don’t get it, something like this definitely cannot lah!!

Now I’m thinking whether should I have censored that or not haha!

Oh by the way, I did mention about packages right? Well Alliance Bank offers 3 different types of schemes to choose from, and because of that, credit cards appears to not burden anymore when you can select either the ‘Great Rebates, Great Rates or even Great Rewards’ programme to suit your needs.

Great Rebates = Cash rebates of up to 2% for ALL retail purchases for the cheapness in all of us, meaning ME!

Great Rates = A flat finance charge of ONLY 9% per annum for the poor and definitely meaning me…..

Great Rewards = 2X reward points for ALL local and overseas purchases for the greedy and that is just so me sigh…

If only I could choose all 3…..

Oh well, you can’t win them all. For more information, do check out their website here and of course, start applying lah….

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic launch was totally awesome,

When he posted? David Cheong On 11:54 PM 8 shengge's
filled with performances from all across the country and even over the sea, it is totally the event of the month!

Well the year just started anyways, and Nokia still has 11 more months to wow us Malaysians with even more exciting events line-up, by which I’m sure that they always do since they’re awesome. A big thank you to Text100 and Nokia for the invitation as a part of the Nokia Insider, which is totally different from the general media.

Cause we bloggers are just awesome that way hahahaha!!!!

40 Winks

Being a working person working in PJ, it was almost definitely impossible for me to get to the Pavilion by 7pm as registration starts then. Not only that, coupled with a ^%@%&@ few jams, you get a plus minus of 45 extra minutes which totally bums you out for missing so much, especially when there were loads of performances all lined-up for the public to enjoy.

And also for myself to geek-out hehe…

Arrived just at the nick of time when the ceremony officiating the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone and the first thing I thought when I arrived was “Awesome stage, would love to get on it lol”. Seeing as there were many people all around the place, I squeezed myself to the front to take some pictures of the performances before being called to go for the Nokia Insiders gathering at La Bodega where we were served with some awesome food coupled with juices, gassy drinks and of course, beer!

You should have seen how big this freaking dish was

It was a night full of fun, and definitely worth enjoying and kudo’s to Davidlian, Eevon and their team of Text 100 for organizing such an event and a big kudos to Nokia for having us there.

Now if only they would be so kind as to sponsor me a free phone haha! Oh by the way, for those who guessed wrongly, nope it ain't a sock. This is what its used for.

Thanks Nigel for the picture

Ghey much? hahahaha!

I has a new pal

When he posted? David Cheong On 5:08 PM 0 shengge's
And I’m wondering whether we could even be bff’s wtf.

Now before you start getting disgusted or whatever, let me start from the beginning. You see, almost everybody has facebook these days and with the popularity of it growing more and more, people who first seem doubtful of it even began embracing it as I’ve seen many of my friends whom aren’t really the type to surfs the so-called ‘social networking’ sites signing up on Facebook.

And because of that, I’m always in touch with many of my friends, both new and old.

In the mere mention of new friends, yes I have met people from social networking sites before and thankfully enough, most of them are really nice people and are really very friendly while most would perceive making friends online aren’t such a good idea.

But let’s leave that aside shall we….

Apart from the many friends I have on my Facebook, I have or rather I think I have succumbed to the mere satisfaction of self entertainment to just add a couple of non-tangible form of ‘friends’ which by all means is meant to satisfy my inner desire to get things the cheap way and none of this is pointing to sex no matter how you look at it.

Yes I’m super duper cheap and I love bargains and free stuffs!

And because of that, I’m proud to say that I have ‘Zouk Malaysia’ on my friends list wtf. Yes, you heard me right and I am lucky enough to say that once I'm friends with Zouk Malaysia, loads of benefits awaits me haha because it already counts as a membership into Zouk Malaysia's club. Yeah that's right, starting this year, anybody who adds Zouk Malaysia as a friend on facebook will already be on its guestlist and considered a member of the club already.

From what I have derived from it's page, these are what it has to offer:

Now how's that for superb freebies.

How to join?

Well first of all, search for 'Zouk Malaysia' on facebook and just select 'add as friend' and you're on your way to fehmes-ness, party-ing exclusively yo! And if you are still unclear of how through adding 'Zouk Malaysia' as a friend will get you into Zouk for free, well here are some guidelines:

- Proceed to the Zouk's side (Barsonic) entrance upon arrival
- Mention to the front office staff you are are a member of the
Zouk Malaysia Facebook Member.

- As a member of our Zouk Malaysia Facebook account, you are entitled to sign 3 guests for every visit (*except for Special events & eves of public holidays)

- Our Front office staff will issue the redemption coupons upon members signing in.

I guess that's about all the shameless-ness that I can have left to display from me haha! Oh and last but not least, an awesome party is being held this Saturday with a guest DJ so awesome, it'll blow your mind.

That's right, World No. 1 DJ, Armin Van Buuren is back and he's ready to party with us! Care to join me? hehehehe....

TOKL: On The Up

When he posted? David Cheong On 11:01 PM 2 shengge's
Errr volume 2 on the search for awesome local indie music I guess?

Haha just kidding. So anyways after having an awesome time at my cherry popping experience on TOKL's On The Up last month, I just had to bring myself to the next one. It wasn't really a question of curiosity but more towards a certain interest I seem to be developing towards the local indie music scene. And I have to say, it blew my mind!

The first band that played, which you can see is kind of named after the instruments that they played was so good, you wouldn't have had believe that they have only been around for about a year or so. But the bad part of it was that, they really did set the bar a bit too high which isn't really good because I enjoyed their performance so much, the others didn't really interest me anymore. I would have preferred them to be the last gig rather than the first...

A Mantle The Sea was up next and they were pretty good and I heard that they've been around for quite some time. A bit all-rounded where some of the songs were pretty good and others not so and halfway through it did kind of sound a bit like Simon & Garfunkel to me.

The 3rd band, Rumi, was a disappointment. I was expecting Jazz music, and it was even publicized on their myspace that their genre was Jazz but in the end, all they played were Punk Rock. It was really a turn-off but maybe they were trying out something new, who knows eh.

Finally, the anticipated Prema Yin was set to be the last of the night and with Fuzz telling me that she is really popular and well-known everywhere even internationally but from her performance, I didn't really believe it. And to make it worse, I never really heard of her before, haha so no offense but her music may cater to most people, which is kind of a blues rock, but that night it was really bad.

My next goal!

Oh well, hopefully the next one will be much better than this. 2StoreyHeart, Izzy Mohamed, Secret Love Affair and Brokenscar is up next!
