You know what, I really am grateful I had taken up photography...

One of the happiest moments of my life hehe!

Because without it, I wouldn't have had so many wonderful experiences and gained quite a number of new found friends whom shared the same interests with me. And also old friends whom has learned and taught me a few things as well and without any of them, I wouldn't have had learned so much in such a short amount of time!

Really am glad to have met them, really...

Can you see the butterfly?

Experiences from photography has taught me alot as well. I have journeyed to many places, well mostly KL and the furthest was Johor Bahru haha and it has brought me to see things in a whole different perspective. Whenever we walk around, how many of us really take the time to see the things that goes on around us and instead, just walk past things and never give any notice to it.

Sad isn't it...

DSC07021

Well that was me before I took up photography. These days, I often walk slower than usual, taking my time to notice things, and even slower when I'm holding my camera. Recording happenings is what I have come to love and true enough, the commercial reasoning behind taking photos really is very tempting but I do not foresee myself doing so.

Well not in the near future anyways haha!

I know, I know!

I'm getting complains that I'm too geeky now but I can't help it. It's the Sony Convention fever and it is sort of like a rush of adrenaline you know, that I have to announce everything all at once just like that really. It has just been crazy lol!

So yeah, chapter 4 of my geeking out session hehe, my shooting interests. If you have been following my blog for a while now, you could see that I really love street photography. It has always been my passion to just capture what I always see on the street or anywhere else for that matter. I'm not pretty much into all the portraits but I can't deny that I do sometimes take portrait shots but not entirely because I just love spontaneity.

I feel like I'm more of a wedding photographer eh hehe!!!

14
Wonder if I could venture into wedding photography or not haha..

Landscape and nature too has been my passion although I'm not really into macro shootings. I have the patience but it was never really my forte. It just does not come to me and I like it that way because sometimes, being too wide does not really help in improvement but concentration on a few single matters are the key to success...

Now that I have gotten that off my chest, it totally felt much better haha! Now these are all just my opinions and now let me ask you, what truly inspires you? Work on it, be the best in it and you have found your road!

Did that sound a bit too corny? I think it does hahahahahaha!!!!!!

My α Journey: My Gear!!!

As far as I'm concern, I'm proud of my gear!

ZALPHALENSES

Although to some, well really just a minority it seems like I have pretty basic ones but it has been serving me well so far and it'll definitely serve me even better in the days to come. And frankly, I think Sony has the best gears and this is not because I am using an alpha but it is the truth!

Sony-CZ-16-80mm-kit-long

Come on, with the big N and the big C giants, how else could they compete with the best kit lens that is offered when our range is more versatile compared to theirs. True that their lenses are cheaper in comparison to ours, but in terms of quality, I think with the Zeiss coating we Sony lenses rule over them!

And just to make it clear, this is just my personal opinion...

SONY-a200DSLR-img

True that Sony is really new in the DSLR market, but look at how they have progressed in just a few years. Truth be told, we would not know what would happen in the future but with things progressing as they are, I dare say that Sony could be on par with N and C pretty much soon but who knows right.

I have faith in what I use but lets get on with it..

60415800.PICT3586

Currently, I use the Sony Alpha A-200 body with SAL18-70mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens, the Minolta 50mm f1.7 and the HVL-F42AM flash gun. Very basic I know but it is suffice for now. Although I do envy some who has the financial capabilities to get better lenses but as for myself, I think that some time spent on learning and dealing with what we have is the best way to learn rather then to simply jump straight on to a better lens.

But who knows right!

products_ass_hvl_f42am

Haha but really, the next lens that I would love to have is the SAL18-250 f3.5-6.3 lens which covers basically everything I need. From a wide range to a telephoto, it could last me for a very long time.

I'll include pretty girls picture to bargain as well lol!

Anybody wants to sponsor me? hehe

My α Journey: So far....

When he posted? David Cheong On 8:38 AM 4 shengge's
It has been what, almost 8 months into photography and so far my alpha has served me well...

Time going real fast eh

In the beginning, I never really knew about the Sony Alpha system, in fact all the hype and attention at the time was given all to Nikon and Canon. And with a noobie like myself at the time with nobody to guide, I just simply did my research on my own and asked people on forums on which was the most preferred system but alas, the best answer that I got was:

"It depends on your own preferences...."

5

And I find it really true. Nobody can really tell you how great a brand really is and most of the time, reviews and preferences are all pretty biased. So going off pretty blindly, I began tested each DSLRs offered by both giants and that's when I came across the Sony Alphas.

7

To tell you the truth, I didn't really know anybody at all who uses a DSLR at the time and only through blogs that I read could I tell the difference in picture quality and at the time as well, the only Alpha users that I know were Albert and SmashpOp. So instead of being skeptical, I tried it out when the Alpha A-200 system was out and when I did, my heart was set on it already.

It was like a meeting of 2 soul mates!

Coming up with creative shots are hard but feels great after getting the awesome results

It fitted nicely into my hands, feeling very comfortably. And although it did feel a bit plasticky but it didn't really matter to me because what I was looking for was, a comfortable feeling and it was great! Moreover with a promotional price at the time, it prompted me to even go for it and that's when I got my first DSLR, the Sony Alpha A-200 and I never regretted it.

9
Picture posted just for the fun of it, lol!

Of course as all newbies are, it was a bit of a rocky start. I still am pretty much a noob now itself, still a lot to learn. It is never enough and the learning process keeps going on and on and that's what I love about photography. There is something new to learn everyday and that's what keeps me going. But slowly and surely, I started to learn quite a bit through experiences, through advices from forums such as the old Sony Alpha forum as well as the Alphanatics now, Albert, Ewin, Ferron, Bugs, Aaron, Hwei Ming and many others.

10

Truth is, I can never say that I am good enough. I will always be a student and a noob in it and without the people around me, I can't say for sure where my knowledge would have come from but I certainly am grateful for it.

convention
Picture stolen from pop's blog haha!

Incidentally, today was the day that all alpha users are waiting for, the Sony Alpha Convention in Le Meridian, KL which is provided free for all Alpha users if they register within the limit of participants and of course I'm in it! And this is going to be awesome because there'll be courses, classes, freebies and of course free food but most of all, a gathering of Alphanatics.

11

And frankly so far, it has been really awesome with speakers from all over with different backgrounds and specialties, a showcase of the amazing capabilities of the first full-frame DSLR by Sony, The Alpha A-900 and of course the models and Ducati's that Sony sponsored just for us alphanatics to well, shoot.

Ahhh being an alphanatic certainly is the life.....
